'Kimmeridge Sunset #1' Linoprint

from £65.00
Sold Out

Original three-layer reduction linoprint of Kimmeridge, on the Jurassic Coast. Based on the Isle of Purbeck, Kimmeridge is a marine special area for conservation, and perfect for rock pooling, snorkelling and fossil spotting. It is overlooked by a grade II listed Clavell tower perched on Hen Cliff.

This is printed by hand from a hand-carved lino block using traditional printing techniques in my home in Dorset. It is a six-layer reduction linocut, a method of block printing in which each colour layer is taken from the same block. More lino is removed from the block for each layer and each colour is printed on top of the last. This means that an entire edition must be printed in one go – once you have carved into the block for the next layer, you can’t go back to print more. For this reason, it is sometimes referred to as the ‘kamikaze’ printmaking. This is a Limited Edition of just 8 prints.
